Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Initial Course
Designed for healthcare providers who direct, or participate in the resuscitation of patients either in—or out—of the hospital. The goal of this course is to improve the quality of care provided to adult victims of cardiac arrest or other cardio-pulmonary emergencies by training to American Heart Association guidelines, algorithms and pharmaceutical intervention. Participants must commit to pre-course preparation & be skilled in basic dysrhythmia identification prior to the course.
ACLS Provider Manual is required.
ACLS-EP
Designed for experienced clinicians with prior training in ACLS. The course focus is the “next step” in ACLS training. This course provides a stimulus for expert clinicians and practitioners to identify areas in resuscitation that deal with special circumstances. The case based small group sessions involve review of electrolyte abnormalities, toxicology, 12 lead ECG discussion, and cardiac arrest due to special causes. This course is an option for those needing to renew an ACLS provider card.
Participants will be issued a key code to take the ACLS exam.
ACLS EP Provider Manual is required.

ACLS Update Course
Based on scientific evidence from the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. ACLS Update Is for participants who wish to renew their unexpired ACLS certification. Preparation is required. Participants must read the textbook and take the pre-course self- assessment and pass with a score of 70%. Renewal is every two ears.
ACLS Provider Manual is required.

Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

Advanced Trauma Life Support is for physicians/physician extenders who treat victims of traumatic events. The ATLS course presents a concise systematic approach for evaluat-ing & treating the trauma patient. Providing a scaffold for evaluation, prioritization, education & quality assurance. The goal of ATLS is to improve the outcomes of trauma patients by teaching established methods of trauma care.
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) and its Committee on Trauma (COT) developed the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) program. At the conclusion of this program you will be able to:

• Assess the patient’s condition rapidly and accurately.
• Resuscitate and stabilize the patient according to priority.
• Determine if the patient’s needs exceed a facility’s capacity.
• Arrange appropriately for the Patient’s inter-hospital transfer (who, what, when, and how).
• Assure that optimum care is provided and that the level of care does not deteriorate at any point during the evaluation, resuscitation, or transfer process.

Class size is limited to 16 and fills quickly. Payment must accompany registration.

CPR (Basic Life Support)

Basic Life Support is based on scientific evidence from the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. Updates are recommended every two years. The 4 hour initial or 2.5 hour update course covers the initial management of a cardiac arrest in the adult/child/infant, proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) in the adult/child/infant as well as respiratory arrest, airway obstruction in the adult, child & infant.
Participants have the opportunity to practice skills with an instructor before performing a practical evaluation. You will also be expected to take an open resource exam. Books are allowed in this exam. With successful completion of both the practical & written tests, you will receive a current AHA card.

Electrocardiogram (ECG)

ECG Review Course
Specifically designed to address a key knowledge gap in electrocardiogram (ECG). The American Heart Association’s Adult ECG Course is a program focused on specific ECG recognition skills. This is a pre-course option for ACLS students and other healthcare providers.
Skills taught in the ECG module include heart anatomy, basic electrophysiology, normal ECG measurements and basic arrhythmias. The ECG & Pharmacology Review textbook is included in your fee.
The course is conveniently scheduled on the first day of the ACLS Initial Course from 0800-1115; however, if you prefer, you can take just this course and schedule the ACLS Initial Course at another time.

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

Initial Course
The Emergency Medical Responder is the first medically trained person to arrive on the scene of an emergency. The initial care given by an EMR is essential because it usually is available sooner than advanced emergency care. This 44-hour hour course will teach you the basics of good patient care & the skills you need to deliver appropriate care to the victim of an accident or sudden illness until advanced trained personnel arrive. You will learn how to examine patients and learn basic emergency medical skills for both trauma patients & patients suffering from serious medical problems. This course is designed to follow the standards set forth by the Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board and the National Education Standards. BLS certification is part of this course. Successful completion of this class will certify you as an EMR in the state.
Refresher Course
16 hours of education, which includes a BLS update. Proof of current EMR certification is necessary. Course books are available but are not mandatory.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Initial Course
This course is designed to follow the standards set forth by the EMS Regulatory Board and the National Education Standards. Successful completion of this course & the National Registry exam will certify you as an Emergency Medical Technician. The objective of this course is to provide the education needed to start a career in EMS. You will gain the knowledge & practical experience to make competent decisions regarding medical and trauma patients in emergent situations.
Refresher Course
Proof of current EMT certification is necessary to participate in EMT renewal course. Course books are available, but are not mandatory. Current American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers is a pre-requisite.

Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)

ENPC, the premier evidence-based emergency nursing pediatric education course, developed by pediatric emergency nurses, provides a standardized body of pediatric emergency nursing knowledge to improve the care of pediatric patients. It provides early intervention and expert care for patients from birth to adolescence.
ENPC uses a systematic approach to the initial assessment with the Pediatric Assessment Triangle and A-I mnemonic tools. This two-day hands-on intensive course combines classroom learning with interactive scenarios.
Verification of successful course completion is based on passing both the written exam and skill-based hands-on assessment.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is based on scientific evidence from the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge & skills necessary to efficiently & effectively manage critically ill infants & children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition & treatment of infants & children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation & synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access & fluid bolus administration; & effective resuscitation team dynamics.
Participants must commit to pre-course preparation & be skilled in basic dysrhythmia identification prior to the course. Take the pre-course self-assessment and pass with a score of 70%.

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is a 16-hour course developed by the Emergency Nurses Association to present a firm foundation in trauma nursing and to provide nurses with core or basic trauma cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills that are associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to the trauma patient.
The ultimate goal of TNCC is to decrease the morbidity and mortality of the trauma patient by increasing the knowledge, skill, and level of nursing care provided in the Emergency Department.
Verification of successful course completion is based on passing the written exam and the Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) psychomotor.
